Dear Juno,
When you first discovered your pregnancy you faced many hard decisions. Do I abort? How will I raise a baby at the age of 16? Do I give my baby away? Etc… In the end you decided to deliver your baby and give it up for adoption. To me this seems very reasonable. Having a baby is a major detriment to your life at such a young age. If I were in your situation my life would be turned upside down. My plans of college would be delayed or possibly not an option. I would need to start working to support myself and the child. I would also simply just have to become an adult at such a young age and that is something many of us, including you and I are not ready to do. We have so much to experience during our young years and we would miss out becoming a mom at 16. It is also likely that the baby would have grown up without a father. Although they are a key role in a child’s life I do not believe Bleaker was ready to become a committed dad. If you guys decided to stay together you both would have to mature and put the babys needs in front of your own like college/ dream job and raise a child. This can be very strenuous on a young couple most likely splitting the family apart. Therefore I support your decision and believe it was the best for you.
Another point I would like to emphasis is that this process of being able to choose whether to keep the baby, terminate the pregnancy, or adoption is that you had all options and was able to choose the best scenario for yourself. Having a child is a difficult decision, but nobody can decide what is best for your body. Not your parents, not the government, and certainly not the law. Looking at this situation from the viewpoint of a rape victim she might want to have an abortion to avoid suffering psychologically. In america she has the right to do so under the law Roe V Wade that passed in 1973. To imagine this law not in existent or if each state had it’s own laws on abortion a victim might not have the choice over her body and be forced to carry a baby to term. Personally, I believe this choice is a constitutional right that gives power to women over their bodies and freedom. Contrary to popular belief having abortions legal do not make them societal norms or increase the amount of unprotected sex. It is still a very serious issue that women have to endure and it is never an easy task.
